英式詞彙記:一品脫的福音

英國是個熱愛傳統的國度,執著程度有時墨守成規一般。在此英制度量衡,可謂一個「精彩」的例子。這是個在我腦海中醞釀良久,但遲遲末寫的題目—因為單位這回事有夠混亂的。呃,就由今天開始吧。所為只顧玩樂的千禧一代,自然由對生存最關鍵的開始:品脫。 公里、厘米、毫升:十進制的公制單位簡單易明,難怪它們已是全球通用的標準。雖然英國官方終在九十年代跟隨幾乎全世界的步伐而轉用公制,規定絕大部分的計算都必需要用公制表示,但在日常生活中,英制還是常用,在超市會和公制並列的標準。

在倫敦中心尋找「小東京」

縱然沒有瞬間轉移裝置,但倫敦可是個世界大都會,要在城市中尋找日本的角落卻也不是難事:博物館、庭園以至書店等,就讓我一一介紹吧。
